27th The European Commission, "The role of Cultural Heritage in the renewed European tourism policy", Charlemagne Building (170 Rue de la Loi - Wetstraat) - Room GASP
This year, on the 27th September 2010, the European Commission is holding, in occasion of the "World Tourism Day", a "European Tourism Day" (ETD), in Brussels, at the premises of the Charlemagne building, room GASP, rue de la Loi 170.
Considering the richness of Europe's heritage and the importance that the Commission attaches to the promotion and valorisation of European citizenship, a decision has been taken that the ETD 2010 "The role of Cultural Heritage in the renewed European tourism policy" should focus on "European Cultural Routes" and cultural heritage.
"Cultural Routes" show how the heritage of the different countries of Europe represents a shared cultural heritage and we, therefore, believe that they are coherent with our objectives. That is why, in the informal ministerial meeting in Madrid last April, Vice President Tajani already expressed his wish to promote them further. This political direction was followed by a specific mention in the new communication "Europe, the world's No 1 tourist destination - a new political framework for tourism in Europe", adopted on the 30th June 2010. It is our intention to facilitate the development of Cultural Routes into a true European, trans-national, touristic product, promoting tourist information on the itinerary, the destinations visited and the surrounding sites and attractions.
The morning session of the ETD will be dedicated to the future development of these Routes and on possible ways of cooperating with the relevant International Organisations in order to improve their promotion. In the afternoon there will be the presentations of the main Cultural Routes, grouped around two themes, which would be "inter-cultural dialogue" and "sustainable tourism policies and networking".
In case you might be interested in registering to the conference, be aware that, being it within the Commission premises, a pass is required. It can be obtained by registering online on our website at the following link: registration
